Catalan Language Packs for the latest versions of DotNetNuke

The DotNetNuke team has been working hard in order to release new versions of DotNetNuke. Since I last released the Language Pack for Catalan (it was for version 3.1.1), they have been able to launch the following versions, which, as you will see, are a consequence of both the evolution of DNN and the launch of VS2005 (that was on early November 2005).
  • 3.2.0, 3.2.1 and 3.2.2, which are an evolution of the 3.x version of DotNetNuke, and are run-time compatible with ASP.NET 1.1 and ASP.NET 2.0
  • 4.0.0, 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, versions 4.x of DotNetNuke are VS2005 projects, so they target ASP.NET 2.0 exclusively

Now it has been my turn to release updated versions of the Catalan Language Pack for all these new versions of DotNetNuke, which I did on 31-dec-2005 (it was my 2005's last "big purpose"). So there are six new downloads available on the DotNetNuke area on my company's website, one for each of the versions.

There are two main reasons for the delay of these releases. The second one (yeah, the first one was I was very busy) is that I've tried to make a special stress on quality. I've been reviewing the translation with two great helps at hand: the first has been the translation made by the Universitat de Girona, that was published on the DotNetNuke website short after my own release. This translation included Language Packs for versions 3.0.12, 3.0.13, 3.1 and 3.1.1 of DotNetNuke.

The second great help has been Vicenç Masanas, which is one of the members of the DNN core team. He was the one who sponsored the UdG translation, and we've had the chance to exchange some mails on the translation.

I am really happy of these releases, and I hope you'll like them. In fact, whether you like them or not, I'll welcome any mail on the subject. Thanks in advance.

See you,

New year, new posts

Well, it's been a busy end of 2005. Definitely busy.

So, here we have a brand new year! And here I am posting again! I've got a lot to tell, 'cause I pretend to recover all that has happened in the two months that I have not posted anything and write it all around here. Yes, it's a menace (not a phantom one, bad joke).

Let me start emphasizing that I've just added a couple of links in my Blogroll section. The first one to Eduard's java blog. Yes, Edu had already a blog on .NET matters, and now has decided to share with everyone also his thoughts about java. The second one is a reference to Ramon Bosch's blog. Let me strongly recommend it, Ramon is posting from a time now, and his posts are really worth.

By the way, if you read Ramon's blog you'll see that he is starting a new Raona office in Argentina, to be more accurate in Cordoba. He's really working hard, so let me encourage him in this heavy task!

OK, and just one final thing for now... Happy new year to everyone!

See you,

IT and society transformation

The second conference of the PDSI - Pla Director de Sistemes d'Informació ("Information Sistems Director Plan") took place yesterday in the SEDEM center at Igualada. This time the conference was given by Antoni Farrés, who is a well known person in Catalunya, and the title of the conference was "Les noves tecnologies i la transformació de la societat" ("New technologies and society transformation").

The conference showed the challenges that ICTs present to the society, specially the catalan society. ICTs suppose a new revolution, which can be compared to the industrial revolution. In fact, the industrial revolution was a key factor to the evolution of Catalonia and the catalan society. Catalonia was one of the firsts zones to adopt the industrial revolution, and now is the time to adopt the knowledge revolution. Globalization is a fact, and the "society of the knowledge" is where we must go. As mr. Farrés said, "Catalunya serà digital o no serà" ("Catalonia will be digital or won't be").

More information on the PDSI conference is available in a previous post.

Enterprise Architect Summit 2005

Tomorrow I'll be attending the Enterprise Architect Summit 2005 that is currently taking place (from today) in Barcelona. This is a world wide conference centered on SOA and software architecture. This is the third year that the conference is celebrating, and fortunatelly this year is in Barcelona, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Arts.

Due to my agenda, I'll be there only for tomorrow, but there are other collegues from Raona that are also going to attend. In fact we've set up a blog where we are going to post what we hear and learn these days. So all conferences we attend will have a summary posted there.

See you,

IT and enterprise transformation

Yesterday I attended to a conference called "Les noves tecnologies i la transformació del teixit empresarial" ("New technologies and enterprise transformation"), which was given by Dr. Jordi Vilaseca, from UOC. The talk was one of the three conferences that will take place inside the PDSI - Pla Director de Sistemes d'Informació ("Information Systems Director Plan") started by the Igualada council and directed by the ICT - Institut Català de Tecnologia (Catalan Institute of Technology).

The purpose of the conference was to present how ICTs are changing the catalan enterprise, and what must the catalan companies do to remain competitive in the globalized world. All the conference was based in a research called "Les TIC i la transformació empresarial" ("ICTs and enterprise transformation") sponsored by UOC and CIDEM and conducted by Dr. Vilaseca.

The conclusions of the research were clearly presented by Dr. Vilaseca, and are also available in the Dossier Economic de Catalunya, no. 295 (Dec. 6-12 2003). The entire research is available here (paper in  English).

See you,
ll.-

Update (03/11/2005): Ramon Costa has posted a summary of the conference in his blog.
