1月4日 Catalan Language Packs for the latest versions of DotNetNukeThe DotNetNuke team has been working hard in order to release new versions of DotNetNuke. Since I last released the Language Pack for Catalan (it was for version 3.1.1), they have been able to launch the following versions, which, as you will see, are a consequence of both the evolution of DNN and the launch of VS2005 (that was on early November 2005).
Now it has been my turn to release updated versions of the Catalan Language Pack for all these new versions of DotNetNuke, which I did on 31-dec-2005 (it was my 2005's last "big purpose"). So there are six new downloads available on the DotNetNuke area on my company's website, one for each of the versions. There are two main reasons for the delay of these releases. The second one (yeah, the first one was I was very busy) is that I've tried to make a special stress on quality. I've been reviewing the translation with two great helps at hand: the first has been the translation made by the Universitat de Girona, that was published on the DotNetNuke website short after my own release. This translation included Language Packs for versions 3.0.12, 3.0.13, 3.1 and 3.1.1 of DotNetNuke. The second great help has been Vicenç Masanas, which is one of the members of the DNN core team. He was the one who sponsored the UdG translation, and we've had the chance to exchange some mails on the translation. I am really happy of these releases, and I hope you'll like them. In fact, whether you like them or not, I'll welcome any mail on the subject. Thanks in advance. See you, 1月3日 New year, new postsWell, it's been a busy end of 2005. Definitely busy.
So, here we have a brand new year! And here I am posting again! I've got a lot to tell, 'cause I pretend to recover all that has happened in the two months that I have not posted anything and write it all around here. Yes, it's a menace (not a phantom one, bad joke).
Let me start emphasizing that I've just added a couple of links in my Blogroll section. The first one to Eduard's java blog. Yes, Edu had already a blog on .NET matters, and now has decided to share with everyone also his thoughts about java. The second one is a reference to Ramon Bosch's blog. Let me strongly recommend it, Ramon is posting from a time now, and his posts are really worth.
By the way, if you read Ramon's blog you'll see that he is starting a new Raona office in Argentina, to be more accurate in Cordoba. He's really working hard, so let me encourage him in this heavy task!
OK, and just one final thing for now... Happy new year to everyone!
See you,
ll.- 11月9日 IT and society transformationThe second conference of the PDSI - Pla Director de Sistemes d'Informació ("Information Sistems Director Plan") took place yesterday in the SEDEM center at Igualada. This time the conference was given by Antoni Farrés, who is a well known person in Catalunya, and the title of the conference was "Les noves tecnologies i la transformació de la societat" ("New technologies and society transformation").
The conference showed the challenges that ICTs present to the society, specially the catalan society. ICTs suppose a new revolution, which can be compared to the industrial revolution. In fact, the industrial revolution was a key factor to the evolution of Catalonia and the catalan society. Catalonia was one of the firsts zones to adopt the industrial revolution, and now is the time to adopt the knowledge revolution. Globalization is a fact, and the "society of the knowledge" is where we must go. As mr. Farrés said, "Catalunya serà digital o no serà" ("Catalonia will be digital or won't be").
More information on the PDSI conference is available in a previous post.
See you,
ll.- 11月6日 Enterprise Architect Summit 2005Tomorrow I'll be attending the Enterprise Architect Summit 2005 that is currently taking place (from today) in Barcelona. This is a world wide conference centered on SOA and software architecture. This is the third year that the conference is celebrating, and fortunatelly this year is in Barcelona, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Arts.
Due to my agenda, I'll be there only for tomorrow, but there are other collegues from Raona that are also going to attend. In fact we've set up a blog where we are going to post what we hear and learn these days. So all conferences we attend will have a summary posted there.
See you,
ll.- 10月27日 IT and enterprise transformationYesterday I attended to a conference called "Les noves tecnologies i la transformació del teixit empresarial" ("New technologies and enterprise transformation"), which was given by Dr. Jordi Vilaseca, from UOC. The talk was one of the three conferences that will take place inside the PDSI - Pla Director de Sistemes d'Informació ("Information Systems Director Plan") started by the Igualada council and directed by the ICT - Institut Català de Tecnologia (Catalan Institute of Technology).
The purpose of the conference was to present how ICTs are changing the catalan enterprise, and what must the catalan companies do to remain competitive in the globalized world. All the conference was based in a research called "Les TIC i la transformació empresarial" ("ICTs and enterprise transformation") sponsored by UOC and CIDEM and conducted by Dr. Vilaseca.
The conclusions of the research were clearly presented by Dr. Vilaseca, and are also available in the Dossier Economic de Catalunya, no. 295 (Dec. 6-12 2003). The entire research is available here (paper in English).

10月22日 The Code RoomThe Code Room is a cold, dark place...
I've just finished watching the two first chapters of The Code Room. For those who didn't know, it is a kind of documentary sponsored by Microsoft that shows a group of developers trying to finish a .NET project before a defined deadline. In 1/2 hour they have to apply a set of new technologies just previously learned
Of course this is not real life (well, though I could mention a couple of times in my life that could have resembled one of the videos), but anyway the show is quite amusing. It has been "professionally produced and directed", and the result is a good TV show, which could be and edition of "The weakest link" or "Sis a traïció".
The first (and pilot) chapter includes three developers who must complete a set of functionalities for an e-Commerce website before they run out of battery. This show is guided by Russ Fustino, and the necessary technologies are presented through a MSDN Developer Event.
The second chapter includes four developers trying to build up a kiosk with an smartphone and bluetooth. The show is guided by Rory Blyth. If you'd like to watch them, you have the links to the streaming media in this page on The Code Room's website. However, you'd better download chapter 1 and chapter 2 of the series and watch it offline. Or, if you are not sure you want to spend 1 hour of your life watching something that does not interest you, you can just watch the pilot's trailer (just 30 secs).
See you,
ll.- 10月19日 Saturday's radio talk-show downloadableFrom yesterday (19-oct-2005) it is available in Catalunya Radio's website the note on the radio talk-show in which I participated last saturday. You can find the information in L'internauta section. From there you can either download or listen to the recorded webcast (in Real Audio) of the talk-show.
More information on the talk-show is available on its website (www.internauta.net and bloc.internauta.net). There you can find also a note on the saturday's edition and also download the Real Audio webcast.
See you,
ll.- 10月15日 Innovation is the gameYesterday I was in the monthly meeting of the 22@Barcelona project, which was held in the Torre Agbar in Barcelona.
These 22@Barcelona meetings are usually on innovation, and this time's main speaker was Gregory McRae, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He presented innovation as the main mean for a country or a zone to become present in today's world. The key is to empower the R+D in the industry and in the universities, and facilitating the creativity and innovation of the students coming out from university.
The meeting also included a brief presentation on the Agbar Group, one of the main catalan companies, and their strategy on research and innovation.
The meeting ended with a visit to the top of the Agbar Tower, the last skycraper in Barcelona, where you have a new impressing view of the city.
See you,
ll.- 10月13日 Radio talk-show this saturdayI've been invited to a radio talk-show in Catalunya Ràdio. It is "L'internauta", which is on air on saturdays, from 15 pm to 16 pm (Barcelona time). I'm participating this saturday's edition, 15-oct.
"L'internauta" is a programme on Internet and new technologies. It is conducte by Vicent partal, which is the "father" of Vilaweb, one of the main impulsors of the ".cat" and he is Premi Nacional de Periodisme. I've been invited as a result of the DotNetNuke translation.
You can also listen to the programme through the Internet, as the radio station also broadcasts through the net.
See you,
ll.- 10月12日 Final release of the DNN 3.1.1 Catalan Language PackFinally!
The final release of the DNN 3.1.1 Catalan Language Pack is available for download. It has been necessary about a month to get to this final version, but I'm sure that it's been worth working on it.
This release (3rd) is basically a deep check of the text with a few fixes. The details of the release can be found in the release notes which are also listed in the download page.
See you,
ll.- 9月27日 Catalan resource files for Delisoft modulesMore on the translation of DotNetNuke to Catalan. This time it's about a couple of modules from Delisoft, DSLocalizator and MMLinks. I am using these modules in my company's website, and they work quite fine. Their purpose is to enable multi-language content in a DotNetNuke website:
The resources for these two modules, translated to Catalan, are available for download here. Enjoy! See you, 9月21日 Catalan Language Pack listed in DNN's siteA reference to the Catalan (ca-ES) Language Pack is now listed in the DotNetNuke site. There is also a reference to the section in raona's (my company) web site.
By the way, you can also find a post in Vicenç Masanas' blog that talks about Language Pack creation. Although there is more information on DotNetNuke localization in the DNN's documentation, the post is quite clear and easy-to-follow, so if you are to begin with a new localization, don't forget to read it. The post comes in two parts, one about First time DNN translation and a second that talks about Customizing an existing Language.
You can find more resources from Vicenç in his website.
See you,
ll.- 9月18日 New release for the DNN 3.1.1 Catalan Language PackThe second release of the Catalan Language Pack for DNN 3.1.1 is now available. This release contains all the texts fully translated and some minor fixes.
Still an in-depth revision is needed, I'm planning to include it in a third (and I hope final) release.
Enjoy!
See you,
ll.- 9月11日 Catalan Language Pack for DNN 3.1.1I've been very busy these last days with the translation of DotNetNuke 3.1.1 to Catalan. Today I'm releasing the first release, you can find it at my company's website (raona), in the section that I have created specifically.
As you will see, there are some issues with this release, I hope I will be releasing new versions of the translation on a few days, so keep tuned. Anyway, the translation is completely usable, just download it and upload it to your DNN website.
Thanks to Ferran Marin for sending me his version of the translation and to Montse Sanz who has introduced me to the world of translation tools.
See you,
ll.- 9月3日 DotNetNuke in my company's websiteAfter some months of work, today finally my company's website (raona), goes live using DotNetNuke 3.1.1. The process has taken more than expected, but as it often happens, internal projects last more than desired.
We've used Delisoft's modules to localize the contents (currently in Catalan and Spanish, will be in English in a couple of weeks, I hope). I'm fairly happy with them, their behaviour is what we needed and the support is quite good.
You really never imagine the amount of configuration work that getting a CMS live supposes. And we haven't changed a pixel of the look that we previously had! The fact is that there are always lots of little things to improve when you are on the Internet...
And talking about look, what I'm most proud of the project is that the website's look is exactly the same as it was (this was one of the goals of the project), quite "away" from the regular DNN look & feel...
See you,
ll.- 9月1日 About the Office LIP (including the Catalan LIP)I was amazed last week when I "discovered" that the Office LIPs (including the Catalan one) can be installed on any version (including the English one) of Office 2003
The answer comes after recalling the old law: "When everything else fails, try reading the documentation".
I have most of the software in my computer installed in English. Otherwise if you are an early adopter of software as I'm trying to be, you end up with a language mess. But Catalan is my first language, so it is comfortable having applications translated.
There are two Catalan LIPs for current Microsoft products: one for Windows XP and one for Office 2003. The point is that the Windows XP Catalan LIP, which was first launched, can be installed on the Spanish version of Windows XP only. So I assumed that the same happened to the Office XP LIP.
Conclusion: Next time I'll try to remember to spend five more minutes reading the release notes.
See you, ll.- Here we goSo, I'm starting my "pro" blog. Just a place to blog work-related stuff; anyway that's what most people will be interested from my life. OK, just a couple of things before the real start:
See you. |
